A rustic camp...perfect for youth retreats, picnics and summer camps
Camp Niwana is located just 16 miles south of Bremerton in the outskirts of Port Orchard, a 25-minute ferry ride from West Seattle to Southworth or a one-hour ride from downtown Seattle to Bremerton. The drive from Tacoma is just 30 minutes.
The natural setting, rustic cabins and flexible facilities provide a perfect atmosphere for many types of events. Our staff will assist with planning as well as great support for your event.
Organized in cabin clusters, the lodging and program spaces can be assigned to accommodate small or large groups. Three separate clusters (or units) of cabins sleep 102 (with cots, 130); additional buildings, some heated, sleep another 30-70. Several buildings double as activity areas or meeting rooms...we can set them up any way you like. Cookouts and primitive camping opportunities are great, with abundant outdoor fire-rings, picnic spots and tenting areas.

A Perfect Place for Environmental Education
Niwana’s forests and waterfront are wonderfully conducive to environmental education. The native forest has both conifers and deciduous trees, ranging from seedlings to trees nearly 100 years old. The evidence of logging, tree diseases and forest succession, as well as a healthy 15-year old plantation, offer great educational opportunities. Wildlife and plant species are diverse and abundant. A small lake nestled in the middle of camp allows for hands-on learning about the lake/pond environment.
Schools will find great variety in the activities that can be offered at Niwana, as well as a lodge that is conducive to family-style and camp dining. Some of the buildings are very suitable as teacher/staff quarters.
If your school or class is interested in the full outdoor/environmental curriculum that our staff can provide, look over the information in the Environmental Education web pages, and/or contact us at 206 463 3174, ext. 34 or campinfo@campfire-usa.org. We can adapt almost all the curriculum to Camp Niwana plus add segment about the freshwater lake unique to that camp.

Food service
The large professional kitchen becomes yours when you use Niwana. A great deal of equipment, utensils and dishes are provided. Just bring a great cook, crew and food, and you'll have a wonderful mealtime environment in Pokiwanis Lodge. Please have your cook visit this kitchen before your event; not every pan, appliance or utensil that you may need is provided.

Equipment and Supplies
Guests provide their own bedding and toiletries for all facilities. Niwana has all the equipment you need for canoeing/waterfront activities (boats, paddles, lifejackets) and archery (bows, arrows, targets, accessories). Plan on bringing your own fishing gear, meeting and retreat suppplies, as well as most sports equipment. A few other pieces of equipment (tools, balls, etc.) are available to borrow. Just inquire!
