“Escape to the Beach”
February 29th, March 1st & 2nd, 2008
WHO: Adult Camp Fire
USA members, alumni and friends.
WHAT: Come escape the
rat race and join us at Camp Sealth on Vashon Island for this year’s
Adult Weekend. We’ll explore some old ideas along with the
contemporary. Learn a skill or perfect one, relax with old friends
and new, while exploring the island oasis known as Camp Sealth.
We’ll play Bunco, enjoy the bidding wars of the silent auction
and have a great time.
WHEN: February 29th,
March 1st & 2nd, 2008 – First workshop is Saturday at
10 a.m. – home Sunday after brunch.
WHERE: Camp Sealth
on Vashon Island
Once again, the silent auction will benefit Special
Family Weekend; a weekend at Camp Sealth for families who have a
child with special needs. Last year, we raised $1447! If you would
like to donate an item or service for the auction, please contact

and will be circulated at local offices and area leader meetings.
Some classes will require you to bring additional items or money.

your confirmation letter closely for additional needs.

are received. There are no guarantees on specific class availability.
To receive a discount, registration must be postmarked no
later than February 1, 2008. The FINAL postmark deadline
is February 8. Sorry, no refunds for cancellations. Please print

Basketry – Weave
a Wall Pocket, using flat reed, round reed and sea grass. Experiment
with shaping to weave your own unique creation. Approx. finished
size is 6-8” tall by 5” wide. Bring scissors and
an old towel. (2 workshops) |

your hand at the ancient art of wax-resist fabric dyeing. Fabric
provided. |

| Candles – Create 3 beach
themed candles, some old favorites and some new ones, too…including
one soy candle. |

art of making corsages. Gift basket demonstration included.

– Try your hand at enameling on a copper switchplate.

Felting, Beginning –
Learn to make wool fleece ready to felt or spin and then
to felt that fleece. Class size is limited. Please note
on registration form if you have a wool carder you can bring
to class.
Felting, Advanced –
(Must have taken Beginning felting) Take the skills you
learned in the beginning class to explore needle felting
as you complete a unique work of art.

Glass Etching, Beginning
– Learn how to personalize by etching onto flat glass.
Glass Etching, Advanced
– (You must have experience with glass etching). Learn
to etch on 3-D objects. |

Glass
fusing – back by popular demand. Learn the
basics of Glass Fusing in this workshop taught by a local
glass artist. We will be making a fused glass tile and some
small pieces perfect for your home or as gifts. All materials
will be provided. Bring $2.00 to cover material costs.

Hardanger Embroidery
– Make a motif using intricate Norwegian Hardanger embroidery.
You will then place it on cardstock to make a special card
for a friend.

Heart Pin
– Use fabric to make a heart shaped pin. |

Henna Tattoo
– Back by popular demand. Explore the ancient art of
Henna Tattoo. |

Iris Folding
– Learn the art of paper iris folding as you create
an exquisite kimono which you will then make into a framed
picture. Bring small pointed scissors or an Exacto knife and
mat |

| Linoleum Block Printing
– Back by popular demand. Explore this simple form of
carving and printing for dramatic results. |

Log Furniture
–- Build a simple stool from peeled logs and finish
it with a woven seat. Requires use of sharp woodworking and
power tools. Takes all 4 workshops to complete. |

Mosaic – Turn a simple
clear glass candle holder into a colorful array of light
as you learn the techniques of cutting mosaic glass pieces,
creating your own design and grouting a candle holder.
Photography Hike –
Explore the beauty of camp with your camera.

Quilting – Complete a memorable
“Escape to the Beach” fabric and fiber wall
hanging. Learn basic quilting skills while developing your
sense of art using collage and fiber fusing techniques.

in a Box – (2 sessions) It’s a pretty
gift box. It’s a scrapbook to keep celebrating your

| Tatting –
Learn the art of tatting as you make a bookmark. |

Thai
Cooking – Enjoy the fruits of your labor while
learning to prepare Thai Red Curry and Satay with peanut sauce.
Caution – class involves both meat and peanuts.
Training
– Personalized Camp Fire training. Specify the training
you need on registration form.

Watercolor 1
– Explore the world of watercolor as you create unique
cards.
Watercolor 2 –
Create a miniature piece of art using watercolors; then build
a driftwood frame to display your creation.
