Summer AmeriCorps position with Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) of Camp Fire USA

Have you wondered what it would be like to be an AmeriCorps member, but weren’t sure you could make the year long commitment? Are you looking for a fun summer opportunity to work with youth? We have this opportunity!

Camp Fire USA is hiring 2 part-time (300 hour) AmeriCorps members! The work weeks are full time, about 35-38 hours a week for 8-10 weeks, so it’s intensive but rewarding. It’s a great way to spend your summer, you can sample what it’s like to be an AmeriCorps member, looks great on a resume and you get to be involved in the community making a difference with the help of youth all around King County.

Your role:

  • To represent YVC as an on-site supervisor and role model for youth volunteers assigned to work on community service projects through school or community non-profit agencies in the area
  • In consultation with youth and community agencies, create and carry out service learning projects staffed by youth volunteers that benefit the community.
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations and work with schools and community organizations to recruit youth for volunteer projects
  • Work with youth to identify community needs and develop projects with local agencies and organizations who address these needs
  • Meet regularly with Program Manager to discuss project status and act as liaison between Program Manager and service agencies
  • Attend all Service Coordinator trainings, complete weekly service logs, monthly activity reports and other evaluative tools for YVCA
  • Adhere to all YVC and AmeriCorps rules and policies as stated in the contract and Team Leader Handbook
  • Supervise, guide, and motivate youth volunteers during service projects; foster teamwork among volunteers

Youth Volunteer Corps Service Leader Coordinators (español)

Position Description:

  • To represent Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) as an on-site supervisor and role model for youth volunteers age 11-18 assigned to work on community service projects through school or community non-profit agencies in the area.

Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with youth and community agencies, create and carry out service learning projects staffed by youth volunteers that benefit the community.
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations.
  • Serve an average of 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday), some evenings or weekends, from September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009.
  • Provide leadership training and opportunities for youth to serve their community.
  • Meet regularly with Program Director to discuss project status and act as liaison between Program Director and service agencies.
  • Supervise, guide, and motivate youth volunteers during service projects; foster teamwork among volunteers.
  • Adhere to all YVC and AmeriCorps rules and policies as stated in the contract and Team Leader Handbook.
  • Must complete required training (provided by YVC)

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 19 years old
  • Previous experience in working as a volunteer preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated leadership quality
  • Commitment to youth

Stipend:

  • $925/month before taxes
  • $4,725 education award, before taxes, at completion of term of service
