| Overview
Giddy-up and get ready for a fun-filled horse adventure! Camp Sealth's horseback riding program emphasizes safety and skill development in a fun and supportive atmosphere. You'll learn a wide range of new horsemanship skills, adding new challenges as you are ready.
Enjoy two hours of hands-on horse time each full day of camp. Campers are matched with their own horse to learn riding techniques in the arena and on the trail. You’ll also have the opportunity to feed, groom, saddle and help out with other “barn chores”. During longer sessions, a western hoedown, line dancing, Build-A-Barn Workshop or other “horsey” activity will be an evening treat!
Requirements
- All campers must have long denim pants for riding and boots with a 1/2 to 1 inch heel and no tread. Please try to bring your own footwear if you can, but Sealth also has a supply of boots that campers can borrow.
- Helmets are required when riding (provided by camp).

How to Register
- Identify your skill level using the chart below. The chart will help you choose an appropriate level based on previous riding experience. Please be realistic about your child’s riding ability.
- Choose a session that offers your child’s riding level.
- When you register, indicate whether your child would like to be in a cabin with a friend of the same grade level. Buddies do not need to be at the same riding level.
- Note that the Camp Sealth riding staff will further evaluate each child’s riding ability on the first day of camp and place each child in a riding group appropriate to his or her skill level. Campers will progress to more difficult riding skills as they are ready.
- We have very high standards for safety in horseback riding. Our instructors will not let campers try activities they are not ready for, and may place a camper in a lower riding level if s/he is holding the group back.
- Choose a session offered for your grade next fall, your gender, and your skill level.
See the "Dates & Rates" chart for specifics on which grade levels are offered which sessions.
- Please indicate on the registration form whether your child would like to be in a cabin with a friend that is in the same grade. Buddies do not need to be at the same riding level, but both levels do need to be offered that session.

Possibilities include a western hoedown, line-dancing, pony painting, a game show or "build-a-barn" workshop. Equestrian (English) campers will have the option to plan an English tea. In addition to regular riding lessons, Pony Express and higher levels will have one or more "ground lessons" to learn about horse care.
Other Camp Activities
Wrangler campers will participate in most activities available for their age group including archery, canoeing, rowing, fishing, crafts, exploring nature, an overnight campout, campfires, theme meals and much more!
Riding-Staff-In-Training (RSIT) and Horseback Riding Internships
If you love horses and enjoy working with kids, the RSIT and High School Internship programs offer you the opportunity to learn more about both. Details here.
The Wrangler Song
Over hill, over dale, over wood and mountain trail
Sealth Wranglers go riding along
Our delight, morn or night
Rainy day or moonlight bright
Just to mount up and gallop along
So off we go to trails of unknown
Singing for Sealth loud and strong, Sealth!
Wherever we go, you will always know
Sealth Wranglers go riding along, yee-haw!
