School Responsibilities
First Aid and CPR
School groups are responsible for providing a first aid kit and one or more designated First Aid Providers who shall be on-site and available at all times during your stay. A First Aid Provider shall be a physician, nurse, or person who has a current American Red Cross standard first aid and CPR certification or equivalent. Camp staff can familiarize this person with Vashon Island medical aid and clinic contact procedures prior to the event.
Schools are also responsible for providing their own transportation for any and all emergencies including trips to the Vashon Health Center or other medical care facilities. The Island's 9-1-1 and local fire departments service uses ambulances, its own aid car, or Airlift Northwest in severe cases.
Student Behavior
Camp is an excellent way for your students to be a part of a unique community. We expect all participants to respect the camp facilities, environment and other participants. Be sure that your students know and understand the rules and their responsibilities while they are at camp. Should a behavior incident occur, Camp Sealth staff reserve the right to ask any student to leave a class, scheduled activity, or camp property. Schools are fully responsible for their student’s actions. School staff will need to take charge of a student who is dismissed from class. Camp Staff can help with debriefing and follow up after scheduled classes.
Providing Counselors/Chaperones
School Staff and Chaperones have primary responsibility for all student supervision. We recommend a 1 to 8 ratio (one adult to every 8 students). Chaperones are especially important during down time (example: between the end of class and the beginning of meals), cabin times, nighttime, and mealtime. During class time one chaperone (at least) is asked to accompany each study group.
Camp Sealth Responsibilities
Program
Sealth hires skilled and competent staff to teach classes, run program areas (such as archery and waterfront) and facilitate activities. Full time staff are available to help you plan your visit with a curriculum and schedule that meets your educational needs and goals.
Housing
Organized in cabin clusters, lodging and program spaces can be assigned to accommodate small or large groups. “Main Camp” has heated overnight accommodations as well as non-heated facilities. Well cleaned and maintained cabins help to ensure your visit is a comfortable experience. Bathrooms and showers are typically located in a nearby separate location. Some of the facilities are those originally built in the 1920’s adding a nice historic and rustic feel to Sealth. Others were built in the 50’s and 60’s. Wrangler, our newest unit was built in 1992.
Food Service
Home style meals, gourmet coffee, and efficient, friendly staff have given Sealth’s kitchen a great reputation. We are able to provide for many special dietary needs. Small groups can do their own cooking in one of several kitchenettes.
