Join us for a fun-filled session of waterfront activity!
Overview
If you want a session of variety, this program is for you. You’ll live with campers your own age who are interested in boating too. We’ll slice through the water with these speedy boats.
Kayaks: Slice through the water in sea kayaks. You’ll master the basics with a certified instructor, then get a chance to play games and explore. Your cabin can decide to do a kayak overnight if you want.
Windsurfing: Hit the water in this exciting sport. A certified instructor will teach you the basics, and help you to master the skills of windsurfing. The wind will propel you across Sealth’s waterfront.

Requirements
There are several things you can do to prepare for camp. First, do some moderate exercise – including your arms – to be ready for carrying equipment, paddling and a little hiking. You will need to pass a swim check when you get to camp. You must be able to comfortably swim 20 yards with and without wearing a life jacket, and tread water for 15 seconds. You’ll also be taught and need to pass a basic capsize drill for each boat you use. You do not need prior experience in the boat to pass the drill.
In order for us to ensure a safe session for your camper, he or she must pass the swim check. If they do not, they will need to be transferred to another program.
Packing List
All participants should bring the following items in addition to the things listed in the regular packing list. It is not necessary that these items be new. Old or borrowed items are best:
* Warm sleeping bag+ – you’ll be living in teepees (and an extra blanket, if needed)
* Warm jacket+ – not down or cotton; wool, synthetic fleece or polartec work much better
* Rain gear+
* Extra shoes to get wet to wear on boats and water (sandals, tennis shoes, or aqua socks work)
* A small backpack (day pack) or dry bag – to carry any necessities on the boats
* Sunglasses
* Sunscreen (15 SPF or higher) and lip balm with sunscreen
* Hat with a brim
* Two water bottles with tight-fitting lids
+We have a very limited supply of these items for campers to borrow. If you know your camper will need to borrow an item please call camp to reserve one.
Kayak Release Form
Vashon Island Kayak, the company that will be guiding the day of sea kayaking, asks parents to sign a release of liability. Kayaking entails some inherent dangers and risks. Safety will be maximized if your child can swim reasonably well and will be compliant with established safety procedures and rules. Accidents can happen because of horseplay, and we can avoid problems if every participant is conscientious about safety.
Prior to the session, please print the release form this link, sign and return it to:
