Week 4 (7/19-7/23)
Volunteer Hop, Volunteer Chore Service #2010-4-VH
We will work together as a team to help make life a little earier for seniors who’d like to stay in their home, but it’s harder to maintain on their own. That’s where we come in. Fine tune your inner Mr.Clean and help low income seniors clean their homes and maintain their yards. We can mean the difference between keeping their home or having to leave. (Age 11 yrs. and over)
When: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Urban Forest Keepers, Nature Consortium #2010-4-UFK
Don’t be afraid of nature, look nature in the face and think green thoughts. Help with the restoration of the West Duwamish Greenbelt, comprised of 182 acres, and happens to be the largest remaining contigous forest within Seattle City limits. Churn, learn, and be a part of preserving Seattle’s Parks. (Age 11 yrs. and over)
When: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: West Dumamish Greenbelt, Seattle
Number of Participants: up to 10 volunteers

WC Feed, White Center Food Bank #2010-4-WC
Help distribute donated food to the 1700 families White Center Food Bank serves, learn about the needs of the community and see what foods get donated to the food bank. Interact with families and experience first hand the difference food banks can make. (Age 14 yrs. and over)
When: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Where: White Center, West Seattle
Number of Participants: up to 6 volunteers

Behind the scenes - Centennial Event Prep (ONE DAY PROJECT) #2010-July20
We need folks who like to work behind the scenes, enjoy hands on work and are organized! Camp Fire USA’s 100th birthday celebration is this year and we want to help them get ready. “We will be decorating weights (bricks) for balloons, assembling signs, making button name tags, putting t-shirt orders together. If this is your scene, come help us out. It will be a low key, fun atmosphere.
Location: Council Office
When: July 20th 6-9 p.m.
Number of participants: up to 10 volunteers

Week 5 (7/26-7/30)
Ship, Shift and Shelve at WTBBL (Washington Talking Books) #2010-5-WTB
WTBBL is volunteer-driven, and partner groups help our more than 10,000 patrons around the state to continue to receive quality services in a timely manner. WTBBL’s services are a lifeline to information, education, culture and entertainment for our patrons, so your help with our shipping department helps others stay connected and involved in the world. Volunteers will process talking book players that have been returned from repair sites • volunteers will inspect talking books that have been returned • volunteers will shelve talking books that have been returned. (Age 11 yrs. and over)
Where: Downtown Seattle

"Summer Time Mix Up" #2010-5-STM
Each day we will be doing a different service project around King County. Get a "taste" of different service opportunities such as working with the elderly or Food Lifeline or doing trail restoration. Specific daily projects TBD. (Age 11 yrs. and over)

Like a Regular Picasso, Bus Mural Painting #2010-5-LRP
We want you to help create and display your amazing artistic abilities for the best bus mural. Work with a group of amazing teens to develop a theme and then let the paint and your creativity do the rest. (Age 11 yrs. and over)
When: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Trail Warriors United, Seattle Parks #2010-5-TWU
With all the weather changes in Seattle, the trails have taken quite a beating. Help us whip West Duwamish Greenbelt back into shape! Not only will you be rebuilding trails, you’ll be greening up Seattle. If you love nature and being outside, it can’t get much better than this! (Age 11 yrs. and over)
When: 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Where: West Dumamish Greenbelt, Seattle

Go Getters! Camp Fire’s Centennial Event Staff (ONE DAY PROJECT) #2010-July31
Happy Birthday Camp Fire!! It will be a full day of fun, and they will need your help with directing traffic, working registration tables, selling merchandise, helping with arts and crafts, leading games for kids, garbage monitors (stand at cans and instruct on recycle vs. garbage vs. compost), take-down at end of event. If you love to work with people, have an outgoing personality and can take charge when needed, then sign up! This is the event for you! Plus, you get to be a part of huge event and there’s free food!!!!
When: Saturday, July 31st Two shifts: 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Location: Magnuson Park
Number of participants: Up to 25 youth volunteers. Parents welcome (we need vanpool and golf cart drivers).

Week 6 (8/2-8/6)
Chef Extraordinare, Operation Sack Lunch #2010-6-CE
Do you see yourself as the next Martha or Emeril? Have we got an opportunity for you! Help create and serve some finger-licking good food to those less fortunate. Roll up those sleeves and grab that spatula to add that special touch and some “BAM!” to help us contribute to the 17,000 meals provided each month. (Age 13 yrs. and over)
When: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Pack a Sack, Emergency Feeding Program #2010-6-PAS
YVC will be helping pack a variety of nutritionally-balanced, diet-specific emergency food bags that our program makes available to social service agencies, food banks, schools, clinics, and faith communities located throughout King County. These bags provide an effective emergency response to the steadily rising numbers individuals and families in hunger crisis in our community. Last year, EFP distributed more than 26,000 such bags to hungry folks in our community. Help provide food to the those in need throughout our community. This is a fun, very hands on project. (Age 11 yrs. and over)
When: Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Farm and Table, Marra Farm #2010-8-MARRA
Are your thumbs Green? Do they want to be? Learn how to grow your own veggies, while helping supply and maintain an organic food garden that serves the residents of the South Park neighborhood. Then Saturday, see the fruits of your labor, help those in the community by distributing the fresh produce to residents. (Age 11 yrs. and over)
When: Tuesday-Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: South Seattle
Number of Participants: up to 10 volunteers

Feed the Need, Northwest Harvest #2010-8-FTN
Volunteers will sort, repackage and label food for distribution to 300 food banks, hot meal and school programs throughout the State of Washington. Imagine the difference just a few hours can make in ensuring that people in your community don’t go hungry. (Age 11 yrs. and over)

Week 9 (8/23-8/27)
Overnight Camp Counselors #1 #2010-9-OCC
Do you enjoy the great outdoors? Can you camp like it’s nobody’s business? Can you roast one mean marshmallow? Well then show off those woodland talents in an overnight excursion with the summer child care program. Be ready to tell goofy tales, sing songs, and help watch our campers. (Age 14 yrs. and over)

Stuff the Bus - School supply sort out! #2010-9-STB
The mission of Communities In Schools of Seattle is to champion the connection of needed resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life. This project of Stuff the Bus directly allows us to provide the necessary school supplies to the students who need them. We delivered supplies to over 28 schools last year. This year we hope to deliver even more, but we need your help. Companies will collect school supplies for us and we’ll “stuff a bus” full of them. From there we need Youth Volunteer Corps members to work in a team environment to systematically sort supplies into school-appropriate groups and create inventory
When: Friday, Aug. 27th 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Where: SeaTac

Week 10 (8/30-9/3)
Overnight Camp Counselors #2

Summer of Service
Middle schoolers - are you looking for something to do this summer??? SUMMER OF SERVICE may be the answer.
We are looking for fun, creative, energetic and enthusiastic young adults to participate in a two-week summer program designed to get youth in touch with their community and the environment.

Who:
Students going into 6th-9th grade in the fall of 2010.

What:
Complete 100 hours of volunteer
environmental restoration, awareness and maintenance projects. Youth who fulfill the 100-hour commitment will earn a $500 education award to use towards post-high school education.

Vashon Island Program Click here to learn more.
Sixteen teens will travel to Vashon Island for two weeks of overnight camp to help with the Sealth Conservation Construction Corps. Teens will help with the maintenance and improvements of Camp Sealth's facilities. Teens will gain leadership and teamwork skills and construction experience; learn skills in proper building materials, tool identification and tool safety, and also enjoy some traditional camp experiences. Spaces are still open! Application deadline August 6th or until spaces are filled. Click here for application.
Dates: August 9-22
Time: Two week overnight camp at Camp Sealth
Program Fee: $300 per participant for entire two weeks. Includes transportation, meals, lodging and around-the-clock supervision. (Less than $22 per day!)

Youth Advisory Board

We are looking for energetic, creative and fun leaders to join our Youth Advisory Board, aka “The Board”. If you can think of ways to make YVC better and get the word out about service learning and volunteering…we want you! Anyone can join! We meet monthly for 2 hours. This year we will focus on making a YVC video and helping to organize 4 major days of service. If you’re interested, contact Marjean at info@campfire-usa.org or call 206 826 8930.

How/When to Sign-Up
There is limited amount of space on each project, so sign up quickly. The projects are assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

During the school year, contact the YVC Service Learning Coordinator for the project you would like to be a part of to sign up.

During school breaks, read the list of projects, pick the ones you want, fill out the registration form, and mail the form to the address on the bottom of the page. Once we receive your registration form, we will send you a postcard telling you which project(s) you are in. You will then NOT hear anything from us until your team leader calls you about 5 days before the project! Please remember which projects you sign up for and keep the commitment.

Please return original and signed registration forms to us by a week before the project at the latest. Transportation is available for some projects - please contact us if this is necessary.
